LUMINAIRE TEST STANDARD EN60598
The standard EN 60598 relates to the safety requirements for luminaires. This norm specifies various electrical tests that must be carried out to ensure the safety and reliability of luminaires. The key electrical tests according to EN 60598 include:
- Insulation Resistance Test: This test verifies the insulation resistance of the luminaire by measuring the insulation resistance between the electrical conductors and the housing.
- High Voltage Test: This test is conducted to verify the insulation resistance of the luminaire by applying a high voltage to identify potential insulation faults or weaknesses.
- Grounding Resistance Test: This test checks the resistance of the luminaire’s grounding connection to ensure a secure grounding is in place.
- Protective Conductor Test: This test verifies the effectiveness of the luminaire’s protective conductor system to ensure a safe path for current flow in case of insulation faults.
- Leakage Current Test: Leakage current is the current that flows through undesired paths, such as through insulation or the protective conductor. In the leakage current test, the current flowing through these undesired paths is measured to ensure it is within safe limits.
- Functional Test: This test verifies the proper functioning of the luminaire, including turning on and off, brightness control, and other functions according to the specific requirements of the standard.
These tests are conducted to ensure that the luminaires comply with applicable safety standards and pose no danger to users or the environment.
